The guide to visiting Ljubljana Zoo

If you are visiting the Slovenia capital, Ljubljana, with your kids, your tour should include a few entertaining hours visiting the lovely Ljubljana Zoo. A visit to the ZOO is a good idea. It is part of a protected nature place located only a 20-minute walk away from the center of Ljubljana, surrounded by a forest and plains.

It offers various animal varieties from all regions that concentrate on animals typical of the area as the Alpine, Pannonian, and Mediterranean. It also provides a small petting zoo and playground for the children, where kids make friends with the local children, and a quiet place to relax for parents and other visitors.

Ljubljana offers a cozy up-close view of animals, various animal experiences, or simply an excellent opportunity to view sea lions, big cats, giraffes, meerkats, and other animals. You can visit the Zoo both during the daytime and at night. If you take your nighttime camping equipment, you can spend the night here on specific dates. Visitors can join zookeepers at animal feeding time, meet their beloved animal, become a zookeeper for a day, and have much more to do. They provide a free parking space. The ZOO is allowable every day of the year!

Activities run by the Ljubljana Zoo for visitors

Animal feeding

Buy a coupon from the ticket office and join a zookeeper at feeding time.

Meet your beloved animal.

If your beloved animal exists in the Ljubljana Zoo, you can visit and closely familiarize yourself with it. You have half an hour to meet your particular animal, and during your meeting with it, you can feed it, explore fascinating truths about it, and learn the conventional ways of keeping and training it.

Camping

Camping at the Zoo is available to families and children over 8 years old. During their visit, tourists become familiarly acquainted with the animals at the Zoo, learn the work of a zookeeper, spend 2-nights by the campfire, and observe animals' daily routines.

Things to do and see in Ljubljana Zoo

There are several things to do and see in the Zoo.

The following are suggestions that you can consider:

1. Plan a couple of hours

In our estimation, you need a few hours to walk around the Zoo calmly. But if you want to let your kids be happy, enjoy time with animals, and play at playgrounds, spend the whole noon at the Zoo. You don't want to rush them. So take more time to enjoy your trip to the Zoo and make it memorable.

2. Make the most of it

The Zoo is in the city park, and it's about 20 min walk away from the city center. It is a quiet place surrounded by woods. It's the perfect place to avoid the sunshine and high temperature of the city. There's also an admirable playground with lots of water and sand, making your kids believe being on the beach.

3. Avoid unnecessary things to do

The Zoo is not too large, and it still takes time to see and experience it all. I recommend you don't visit it all. It's not necessary to view it all. Enjoy your little and precious time.

The Ljubljana zoo is the place where children can take control and set the pace. They enjoy and observe animals more closely than adults. They can decide which animals are a must-see or which they don't want to see. They prefer their beloved animals to see and love to spend time with them. To make their choices more leisurely, take the Zoo plan – at the ticket office.

4. Must-see places

Kids' favorite place is the petting zoo, where kids can meet their beloved pet animals, pet sheep, goats, and pigs. They love the opportunity and adventure. They love to be in close contact with their favorite animals. Also, Slovenians are the local Slovenian farm animals. You don't want to miss seeing them, as they are next to the main gate.

5. Try exceptional experiences

The Zoo offers lots of unusual experiences, and one is an opportunity to spend a night in the Zoo. The other is the chance to feed certain animals at the Zoo. You will get a feeding schedule right next to the zoo maps. At a surcharge, you could help feed the animals of your choice. Just go and check at the ticket counter.

6. Avoid the crowds

Ljubljana Zoo is small, with animals and playgrounds, and the things kids love most, so it is evident that it gets crowded quickly. in My opinion, the best way to avoid being stuck in crowds is to plan your visit in midweek.

7. Visit in Springtime

While planning to visit the Zoo, consider packing your bag any time of the year except on Christmas day, when the Zoo is closed, but the best is to visit during Springtime when you are amazed to see lots of animals with their cute baby. It's a special treat for everyone, even adults too.

8. Bring a water bottle with you

I recommend you take a water bottle with you. You can refill it at several places during the Zoo tour. During your time at Zoo, you or maybe your kids get thirsty, so you should take water along with you.

9. Bring a book

While your kids enjoy themselves at the playground or meet their friends, you have plenty of time to do things. If you have free time and want to relax and enjoy the visit thoroughly, it's better to pick your favorite book and read in a quiet, comfortable corner.

10. Kids at the playgrounds

When visiting a place, Kids never miss a chance to see every corner. Kids never want to miss out on three great playgrounds in the Zoo. These playgrounds have slides, a trampoline, ropes for climbing, water, and many more things to do.

11. Try restaurants at the Zoo

When you are at the Zoo, you can get some ice cream or meals at the one restaurant placed inside. You could also have a more valuable meal there if kids get starving and you don't want to rush out to try there. It is worth trying.

Final words

Visiting a Zoo is a fun and educational tour for you and your kids.

Make the visit educational with kids discovering something new and adventurous, and try out Zoo special activities. It would be best to try out their camping, as feeding animals is also a great experience. Kids can also play at their playground and make friends too.
