Visit the Savica Waterfall

The Savica waterfall, named "slap Savica," located in the Triglav National park, is one of the two springs of the most prominent Slovenian River, the Sava River. It is The third most visited attraction in Slovenia. Savica is unique among world waterfalls, and its watercourse is divided into two parts in the hidden undergrounds, high above the Triglav Lakes Valley. It is in Triglav National Park, the only National park in the country. Savica waterfall is the highest waterfall in the country. How to get there?
From Ljubljana, the Savica Waterfall is 90km away. Then you reach a parking spot from which you have to continue on foot. The path is not suitable for baby strollers or wheelchairs. The walking path to the Savica Waterfall is open the whole year. It will lead you through the stone-like stairs through the forest, except in periods of bad weather, ice, and snow. For a waterfall visit, a small fee is payable. (3 EUR) The route takes about 20-25min on foot.
To admire its beauty, you first have to climb about 500 steps. It is worth the climb. Well, it is not easy to mount. But the path is well maintained, and the steps are mostly regular. Therefore, it is not too difficult. However, it is not an easy job for people with solid knee pains or any other abnormality. There are 2-main stops on the way. After roughly 200 steps, you see a view, the clearing in the trees, and enjoy a glimpse at the Ukanc end of Lake Bohinj. And 100 stairs later, there are picnic tables where you can sit and rest. The good news is that the paths are almost under a dense forest, offering shade from the sun or protecting from the rain. So, if you visit here on a hot day, the temperature will definitely be lower.
The Experience
You will admire when you know you are close to the waterfall when you hear the water thundering down the rock face. Now, You have reached the top. At the top, there is also a small wooden platform. On one side of the forum, you can see the mountains and Lake Bohinj above the trees. And on the other side, you will see the Savica Waterfall. The platform is for visitors from which visitors can see the waterfall from a distance. You can also walk a bit closer along a path before you reach a gate. The gate is to stop people from getting too close to the waterfall.
Once you are there, you can praise the waterfall from the top. You can go down a few steps to get closer. Unfortunately, a gate at the bottom takes you too close to the Savica waterfall.
Things to know, before you go.
It's prohibited to jump into the green pool. The water flows down into Lake Bohinj, which is another must-visit site. Many nearby visitors take a cable car to Vogel. From Vogel, they can admire the beauty of Lake Bohinj.
The best time to admire the Savica waterfall is in spring when the snow in the mountains above lake Bohinj is melting, and water drops into the lovely green pool below. There is little space here, so it is worth choosing a quiet time to visit. Especially, If you want to take amazing pictures, call early. It is not so easy to get perfect images without anyone on them. On an unforgettable day, you might enjoy the spray with water. It is fantastic to feel the cool, refreshing breeze from the water on a hot summer day.
Savica Waterfall parking
Savica waterfall parking is available at the end of Ukanc, at Savica. Savica will attract you for a shortstop before and after visiting the Savica waterfall. You can also buy souvenirs for your friends and family while enjoying the fresh mountain air.
There is a parking fee that must pay to the parking fee collector. There is also a parking price list for the Savica waterfall available for visitors and the condition of the parking lots on the interactive map of parking lots in Bohinj. Be careful not to leave the car in a place marked for other vehicles as buses.
For a more accomplished trip with less crowd and little more walking, parking is also possible opposite the Zlatorog camp in Ukanc. The parking fee is paid there at the parking meters.

The Savica Waterfall is the source of inspiration for the greatest Slovenian poet of romanticism. In the 18th century, France Prešern wrote the poem The Baptism on the Savica, translated into many different languages. The verse tells a story of a young hero, Chrtomir, and his love for Bogomila. Unfortunately, they both came from other religions. For that reason, they couldn't be together. However, his love for her was so big that he converted to Christianity and got baptized under the Savica Waterfall.
